Natsumi! is a super fun book with a message I loved! I had no idea when I grabbed this book off the library shelf, what it was about or how much I would enjoy it. Written by Susan Lendroth and illustrated by Priscilla Burris, this book is about a young girl named Natsumi. Natsumi is a girl that does things in a big way. She is often getting asked to take things down a notch because it’s more than her mother, father, or grandmother can handle. But her grandfather just smiled. When Natsumi’s family is busy preparing for the town’s Japanese arts festival, she tries each art, trying to find where she can help. Unfortunately, Natsumi’s big way of doing things keeps ending in disaster. Finally, when Natsumi is overwhelmed that she can’t do what others in her family can, her grandfather shows her that she doesn’t have to. This is a beautiful story about being yourself, finding your own path, and unconditional love. I LOVED this book. I love books that tell my kids to be themselves. What other books have you read that tell a similar story?
