Today is National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day, but everyone should read When Sadness is At Your Door by Eva Eland. We are all sad sometimes and it’s okay to be sad. This book does an amazing job of showing how sadness can come at any time and be hard to deal with. But the way this book portrays sadness makes it feel a little less overwhelming. I absolutely love the illustrations which make you want to give sadness a big hug. They are sweet and cute, but do a great job portraying the emotions of the story. I think it’s really helpful to teach kids about all kind of emotions, but letting them know how to recognize and cope with sadness, anger, depression and other difficult emotions is a life skill everyone can benefit from.
