Peaceful Fights for Equal Rights

In honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., I thought this was a great book to share. Peaceful Fights for Equal Rights, written by Rob Sanders and illustrated by Jared Andrew Schorr, shows the many ways we can stand up for the things we believe in. Some of the words or concepts might go over the heads of young children, but it’s great for starting those conversations. There is also a great glossary at the end of the book that is awesome for explaining words that kids might not understand. I really loved the information about peaceful protests you can read at the end of the story. Dr. King explained that the goal of non-violent protest is not “to humiliate or defeat the opponent but to win his friendship and understanding.” This was a lovely book and a great way to honor the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
