Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, written by Judi Barrett, is a classic that I had to buy when I had children. I LOVE this book! I remember loving it as a young girl and I love reading it to my kids. For anyone not already very familiar with this story, it is about a world where the weather is food. Everyone in the town of Chewandswallow gets their food when it falls from the sky. No one had grocery stores or refrigerators because no one needed them. Then one day, the weather turned ugly. Awful things started happening, like giant pancakes falling on schools and a day where there was nothing to eat but Gorgonzola cheese! As the weather got worse, the people of Chewandswallow had to abandon their homes to find a new place to live where food didn’t fall from the sky. It’s a super silly story with no moral or point other than to entertain and engage the imagination, but that is exactly why I love it so much. It’s such a creative and inspired story that it naturally encourages kids to use that amazing brain of theirs to imagine all sorts of things. And the amusing artwork drawn by Ron Barrett adds so much excitement to the story. I cannot even remember the number of times I read this to my kids, but it was a favorite in our house. Have you read this classic to your kids? Did they love it as much as mine?
