The Big Umbrella is a super sweet book with a beautiful message. Written by Amy June Bates and cowriter Juniper Bates, a mother and daughter team, the story is about a big happy umbrella that fits any number of creatures under it. Big, small, hairy, plaid, two legs or four; the umbrella can fit and protect them all. And there is always room for more. This is a simple story that brilliantly depicts the beauty in diversity and community. I really enjoyed the lovely illustrations by Amy June Bates throughout the book, but the last page is my favorite. There is so much joy, love and kindness diversely depicted on those pages and it’s a really fun picture to look at. May we all have a big umbrella to share!
