The Water Princess, written by Susan Verde and illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds, is a beautifully written and illustrated book about a serious topic. This story is about a young girl that walks with her mother for miles every day to fetch water. It’s a long journey and takes up much of the day. It’s reality for many families in Africa. This book gives you a glimpse of what that might be like. But the story ends with a note of hope… a hope that someday, there will be clean, cool water. The beautiful words allow you to feel the frustration and relief along with the character. The stunning artwork is a perfect complement to the words on each page, giving the story rich life and color. At the back of the book, they give you information about what the book is based on and the effort to bring clean water to the many people around the world without it. It increases awareness and can be used as part of a larger discussion. So glad to have found this fantastic book.
